How to set up DMARC for Smarsh in Valimail

Updated over a week ago
SPF(supported)
DKIM(recommended)

This article covers the SPF and DKIM authentication processes for Smarsh and how they are managed in Valimail. While only one of the two authentication methods is required for an email to pass DMARC, our recommendation is to configure both whenever possible.

Configuring DKIM authentication for your Smarsh emails

To enable DKIM:

  1. Go to CONTROL PANEL > Services > Email Protection > Settings > DKIM.

  2. Choose the domain you would like to configure DKIM for and click Configure > Generate keys.

  3. You can now see the values for creating a new TXT record for your domain. Contact your DNS provider to add a new TXT record.

Important: update the TXT record before clicking Enable digital signing, otherwise it might result in non-delivery of messages to the recipient depending on the recipient's mail filter configuration.

Here is what this TXT record should look like:

    Host Name: 2017071012342006._domainkey.yourdomain.com

    Text: v=DKIM1;t=s;p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCZUKB+qpyR6TJsA8yjNBEpb7

    CFeak2iwEUNlNgJuj3ncKfm+2we7B8GahlKn+LBx4d0ufXwv9gQQ/ALpHidMoVXCIv7Ms+YbGcifAdCtomIFqt

    ByaIASiNApvJmqN4T3GIzJbWckqaKbHDXMLddGA8LrtJTMIVganEGOeZtt9hjQIDAQAB

Once the TXT record is updated, go back to CONTROL PANEL > Services > Email Protection > Settings > DKIM > Enable digital signing.
