How to set up DMARC for Staffbase in Valimail

Updated over a week ago
SPF(supported)
DKIM(recommended)

This article covers the SPF and DKIM authentication processes for Staffbase and how they are managed in Valimail. While only one of the two authentication methods is required for an email to pass DMARC, our recommendation is to configure both whenever possible.

Configuring DKIM authentication for your Staffbase emails

  1. On the Settings page, click the Web App Sending tile.

  2. Enter the main Domain name (URL) that your organization sends emails from and click Add Domain.
For example, if you send from [email protected], [email protected], etc., enter yourcompany.com

With an Enterprise plan, you have the option to add multiple email domains and sub-domains at this stage in the process. For example, you may want to send from email addresses that end with @department.yourcompany.com as well as @yourcompany.com

Each of these domains or sub-domains must be added and verified separately. Otherwise, they will not work with the Employee Email web app. This is also recommended when using email aliases.

The page displays the Domain Name(s) you add, with a Verification Status of Pending.

  3. Copy the TXT Record and CNAME Records that are automatically generated for your domain.
These must be added to your organization’s internal and external Domain Name System (DNS) settings.
Please contact your IT team for assistance with this configuration.

Once these records have been added to your organization’s DNS settings, wait 24-72 hours for these changes to propagate throughout the web.

Note: Making the change to only external or only internal DNS settings causes inconsistent results in your Verification Status when you use the Employee Email web app to send emails.

Open Employee Email's Web App Sending page again and click the three dots next to your Domain Name, then click Retry.
It usually takes a few seconds for Employee Email to check your organization's DNS settings, but in some cases, it takes longer. Staffbase recommends allowing up to 1 hour for this check to be completed.

When your organization's DNS settings are successfully verified, your domain's Verification Status changes to Success.

If there are any issues verifying your organization's DNS settings, the Verification Status changes to Failed.
