How to set up DMARC for Conversica in Valimail

Updated over 5 months ago
SPF(supported) (dedicated subdomain)
DKIM(recommended)

This article covers the SPF and DKIM authentication processes for Conversica and how they are managed in Valimail. While only one of the two authentication methods is required for an email to pass DMARC, our recommendation is to configure both whenever possible.

Configuring DKIM authentication for your Conversica emails

Creating a Subdomain

You will first need to create a subdomain on which you can do the DKIM and SPF authentication for Conversica (usually, cmail.yourdomain.com).

Generate DKIM and SPF records

After you create the subdomain, you must generate the DKIM and SPF authentication records from Conversica, as shown in the steps below:

1. Find Generate DNS Setup Page Link in DNS Settings.

Generate DNS Setup Page Link button

2. Click Generate Link.

3. Copy and paste the link that is generated, into your DNS to allow them to create and validate the subdomain on your behalf.

Register Subdomain

1. Go to the DNS Settings link in your Conversica dashboard, and click Add Domain. Then add the desired subdomain to the Add Domain section of the DNS Settings. This is where you enter "cmail.yourdomain.com" or any other subdomain name that will be used exclusively by the Conversica assistant.

You can also enter custom selectors for DKIM in the advanced settings of the "Add Domain" interface. Please enter the subdomain and not just the domain.

2. Click into the domain ID you just added and you should see the 9 DNS records that your IT team needs to add to your DNS Hosting Service. There are 2 TXT Records, 3 MX Records, and 4 CNAME records that you will need to add to your DNS Hosting Service.

Important: If you manage DKIM for your domain in Valimail, you will need to add the 2 CNAME DKIM keys on your domain's Configuration page in Valimail Enforce and the rest of the records will go in your DNS.

3. Keep this page open in your browser, as you will need to return to validate your records once they're created.

4. Once all records have been entered in their proper place, click the Validate button found on the page from the DNS Settings page.

A green checkmark will display for each record that has been entered correctly.

A red โ€˜Xโ€™ indicates there was an error when validating. Please confirm your record entries are correct.
