DMARC

  1. Now you’re on the ‘DNS Management’ page. To enable DMARC you will need to add a new record in the ‘Records’ section of this page.
  2. Click on the ‘ADD’ button at the bottom right of the ‘Records’ section and an input field ‘Type’ will appear. Records section and a green arrow pointing to the ADD option

Best Practice: Delete the “_dmarc” TXT record from your DNS zones after you’ve added the NS record (or CNAME record) if one exists.

SPF

Valimail uses a part of the SPF standard called Macros. These are supported by all email receivers. Macros, along with Valimail’s patented technology, allow Valimail to provide SPF services and directly address the 10 domain lookup limit in the SPF standard.

To delegate SPF to Valimail for email authentication, you'll need to add a TXT record that includes Valimail's SPF macro.

  1. Click on the ‘ADD’ button in the ‘Records’ section.
  2. You will now be able to select a record type using the ‘Type’ dropdown. Select ‘TXT’, and you will see some additional fields appear.
  3. If you have an existing record that addresses SPF, backup/save and remove it.
  4. In the ‘Host’ field enter the @ symbol.
  5. In the ‘TXT Value’ field enter v=spf1 include:%{i}._ip.%{h}._ehlo.%{d}._spf.vali.email ~all
  6. Next is the ‘TTL’ field. We recommend a TTL of 600 seconds. Click on the dropdown menu of the ‘TTL’ field and select the option ‘Custom’. You will then see a ‘Seconds’ field appear. Edit the ‘Seconds’ field to show 600. TXT record TTL editing for SPF
  7. Click ‘Save’. You should now see a new TXT record with the values you entered in the previous steps.TXT record for SPF is listed in Records section

DKIM

Just as you've created an NS record for the _dmarc name / subdomain, now you will need to create a similar one for the _domainkey name / subdomain.

  1. Now you’re on the ‘DNS Management’ page. To enable DMARC you will need to add a new record in the ‘Records’ section of this page.
  2. Click on the ‘ADD’ button at the bottom right of the ‘Records’ section and an input field ‘Type’ will appear.
  3. You will now be able to select a record type using the ‘Type’ dropdown. Select ‘Nameserver’ (aka NS), and you will see some additional fields appear.
  4. In the ‘Host’ field paste in _domainkey and in the ‘Points to’ field paste in ns.vali.email.
  5. Next is the ‘TTL’ field. We recommend a TTL of 600 seconds. Click on the dropdown menu of the ‘TTL’ field and select the option ‘Custom’. You will then see a ‘Seconds’ field appear. Edit the ‘Seconds’ field to show 600.NS record editing for DKIM
  6. Click ‘Save’. You should now see a new NS record with the values you entered in the previous steps.

Great! Your DNS configuration is now complete. Soon you will see the domain status updated in Valimail Enforce based on your updated settings.
