How to set up DMARC for DreamHost in Valimail

Updated over 6 months ago
SPF(supported)
DKIM(recommended)

This article covers the SPF and DKIM authentication processes for DreamHost and how they are managed in Valimail. While only one of the two authentication methods is required for an email to pass DMARC, our recommendation is to configure both whenever possible.

Configuring DKIM authentication for your DreamHost emails

  1. Navigate to the Manage Websites page.

  2. Open the DNS Settings page:

    DNS Settings

    • If in Grid view, click the 'vertical 3 dots' button under your domain. From the popout menu, click the DNS Settings link.

    • If in List view, click the 'vertical 3 dots' button to the right of your domain. From the popout menu, click the DNS Settings link. The domain's DNS records display.

The DreamHost mail server DKIM record will look like this, identifiable by _domainkey in the record and type TXT:

Name

Type

Value

dreamhost._domainkey

TXT

k=rsa; t=y; p=qMQDy8aI0BIskx4Mld4UoU7dCtAYy1ksUnCOHhS4Vlw+K1H7LjOAwoz3QuAvgJA8QN09qQNEGkk0/RlzloWBgHcNwsOyJhfmOWLUDRwEzs+SmkvaD/68fPb/CirMRdG4vOeJBT1hvWB1LA7BHBkbSYVwe3nnuLebRnKSoW6ADk+QAaR90uARQEUp6XNB8hVOIfVXSiYFoGICAmUGpGJKkmN1RpE+6CgIOZWGF2Dt74AizO4kmbHAk87+VcLbqx2oeQKfQyAe2PFVQd3RssYx+ywrwsOkAtVcPOlAoMA9AxGezg5rqr9ev0z8pIEK1ONZ3gZld7BEM8EA9Dl9AWG+vhtdDtvxfqocdEPS0PbT1vR5fqAXKX8FYrKQFagdejgKNKsVIEK+

When you send emails through the mail server, they will be automatically signed. Most emails are sent through the mail server; webmail, mail client programs โ€“ anything that uses SMTP to send emails sends them through the mail server.

DKIM key length

DreamHost supports 2048-bit DKIM keys.

NOTE: If you manage you domain in Valimail, you will need to add the DKIM key/s on your domain's configuration page in the Valimail platform.
